Cleveland Arts Prize Offers Tour of Cleveland Clinic Art Collection

Tue 4/18 @ 6:30-9PM

If you’ve got a passion for art and want to help bankroll the nonprofit Cleveland Arts Prize, which had been making monetary awards to people and organizations in all areas of the arts and at all stages of their careers since the early 60s, here’s a great opportunity for you: a series of six monthly events titled “Art Collection Tours of CLE: A Tuesday Night Series.”

Each month, participants will visit another of the area’s art collections held by a local institution/ organization that only puts a few works on view at any given time. Each tour will be led by the collection’s curator, who’ll talk about its history, its holdings and more. And each tour will feature a work by an area artist who has won the Cleveland Arts Prize, who will join the group to talk about their work. Each evening will include a post-tour reception with wine and light refreshments.

The second of the series takes place on Tuesday April 18 and will offer a look at the Cleveland Clinic Art Collection with curator/director of the Cleveland Clinic Art Program Ellen Rudolph, and curators Sienna Brown and Brian Downey. She’ll offer just a glimpse of the Clinic’s collection of almost 7,000 contemporary works of art by emerging and established artists and talk about their role in creating a healing environment. The CAP winners highlighted are Corrie Slawson (2021) and Hildur Asgeirsdottis Jonsson (2008) who woven works decorate the Clinic’s Glickman Chapel (pictured).
