One of the most striking achievements of Mayor Frank Jackson’s 16 years in office was his Office of Sustainability, which created the decade-long Sustainable Cleveland 2019 project. Over the course of its ten years it created many environmental initiatives which continue to this day.

The City of Cleveland Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Climate Justice is continuing to do that work, with a focus on amping up emissions reduction and building resilience through decarbonization — the reduction or elimination of greenhouse gases, primarily by moving away from the use of fossil fuels.

This week it will share some of that work with the community with its Decarbonizing Greater Cleveland Summit taking place at Cleveland Public Auditorium. Mayor Bibb, along with national and local leaders in the climate action movement, will share their insight into how northeast Ohio can reach carbon neutrality to 2050, looking at energy transformation, land use, green buildings, climate-friendly transportation priorities, industry & circular manufacturing, and nature-based solutions. It will address the policies, resources and skills training needed to achieve this goal, as well as community impacts and assuring equity.

“We consider this Summit to be the kick-off for the scoping of a Greater Cleveland regional decarbonization framework that could connect numerous climate action planning efforts,” they say.

The pubic convening runs from 8am-noon. It will also be livestreamed on the Sustainable Cleveland YouTube page. Register to attend here.
