Brooklyn-based Goth-folk cabaret act Charming Disaster are one of those quirky bands who carve out their own niche and tend to assemble a core of fanatic fans.
It consists of a pair of singer/songwriters, Ellia Bisker and Jeff Morris, with a taste for the macabre. They accompany themselves for ukulele, guitar and foot percussion while performing their musical narratives of crime, death, love and the supernatural. Swirling around in their musical mix are murder ballads, the occult, the stories of Raymond Chandler, the work of Edward Gorey and the films of Tim Burton.
They released a new album last month, titled Super Natural History, described as “musical cabinet of curiosities featuring songs inspired by the natural world and the metaphysical realm,” on which they “explore subjects like witchcraft, monsters, and the underworld alongside bats, plants, poisons, and parasites.”
To share the new material with fans, they’ll once again they’ll be back at Wizbang Theatre in Cleveland Heights, sharing the bill with Wizbang founders, modern vaudeville act Pinch and Squeal. And once again, the interactive performance will be based on an oracle deck to determine the set list and create an audience group reading. Tickets are $20. Go here to get them.
