Artist Talks About her Environmentally Oriented Show at Sculpture Center

Sat 4/29 @ 1-2:30PM

One of the two current shows at the Sculpture Center is Erin Mallea’s Permissible Dose, which “investigates visual, auditory, and olfactory experiences of living in proximity to industrial pollution.” Using video, sculpture and “’custom fragrances designed to mimic Pittsburgh industrial smells,” based on live air-quality data from Pittsburgh, Mallea’s home.

The artist will join Pittsburgh-based researcher Abhishek Viswanathen and Whitnye Long Jones, director of community engagement at Ohio City Inc for a talk called “The Aftermath of the Plume: Understanding Air Quality Through Citizen Science.” They’ll discuss how people in Rust Belt cities such as Pittsburgh and Cleveland can become engaged in making their communities healthier.  It’s free and open to all. Registration is recommended here.

Come prior to the talk to join Mallea for a guided tour of Permissible Dose. She’ll be leading tours at 12:30 and 12:45pm.
