For two people, Cleveland’s Duo Decibel System makes a lot of noise. Guitarist/vocalist Melanie Fioritto (aka Miss Melvis) and drummer/electronics operator John Scully, both longtime veterans of the area music scene with time spent in bands such as Starvation Army, Chump, the Heathers and Numbskull, combine punk, jazz, rock and electronics in an alternately aggressive and moody cloud of sound augmented by dark, creepy lyrics. They’re known for playing such alternative venues as art galleries and record stores.
They’ve put out a string of releases since 2016, most recently 2021’s And You Will Know Us By Our Avatar. Catch them this weekend at Akron’s Rialto Theater where they’ll be joined by a couple of other interesting local original acts, Church of Starry Wisdom and The Baker’s Basement. Presale tickets are $10; they’re $15 at the door.
