Big news from Cleveland’s LGBTQ+ and allies band, the Blazing River Freedom Band. The group has a new name, just in time for its spring concert: the Cleveland Pride Band. For two decades, the ensemble has been an upbeat presence at Pride parades and other events, and it also holds its own season of concerts.
The upcoming concert, called “Choose Joy,” kicks off the group’s 20th season with tunes by composers Lady Gaga, marching band composer Randall Standridge and Frank Ticheli, who specializes in band and orchestral music, and a medley of tunes from Disney productions. It’ll also feature raffle and silent auction items to fund more percussion equipment for the group. It takes place at Lakewood Congregational Church. General admission tickets are$15.
The band is always looking for new members: enthusiasm is more important than outstanding chops. Go here for info.
