There’s nothing but good news these days for Akron-based alt-country band the Shootouts, who released their third album Stampede at the end of February and celebrated by making their debut at Nashville’s legendary Grand Ole Opry. The album followed their April 2021 sophomore release Bullseye, a top ten Americana album, which took them to another level. It gave them more opportunities to tour and open for national artists including Sheryl Crow, Chris Isaac and Steve Earle. They attracted the attention of Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson, who co-produced Stampede with Sam Seifert. Now, as the band embarks on a round of touring, including an official showcase at Austin, Texas’ SXSW music conference, its album has gone to #7 on the American Music radio chart.
They’ve just released a new single off the album, which will tug at the hearts of many Clevelanders: they’ve covered the late Michael Stanley’s “I’ll Never Need Anyone More.” And they’ve made a video to go with it. You can watch the video here.
“We had a lot of fun making this video,” says lead singer/guitarist Ryan Humbert in a press release. “While the song’s theme is a standard unrequited love story, we wanted to turn that on its head a little bit. Director Todd Volkmer came up with the idea of a modern day Bonnie & Clyde angle, and we ran with it.”
“This song was written by Cleveland music legend Michael Stanley, who passed away from cancer in early 2021,” he adds. “We took this song from his Heartland album and put our own spin on it, and we were thrilled to be joined by our friend Raul Malo of the Mavericks on harmony vocals.”
The band’s touring schedule takes them throughout the Midwest, down to Nashville again, to New York, New England and Washington D.C. They’ll stop home in Akron on March 30 for The Summit FM’s 330 Day Concert and return to Cleveland June 8 to play the East Short Park Club summer concert series.
