Ukrainian Orchestra Performs at Tri-C, Led by CIM-Educated Conductor

The Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine was founded in 1902, and has built a reputation that has landed it festival bookings and frequent international tours. It hasn’t toured the U.S. since 2017 but it’s here now. And currently its chief conductor in the American-Ukrainian Theodore Kuchar who graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music and has continued to do reisdencies there as well as in Australia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Venezuela and of course Ukraine.

He’ll be on the podium when the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra performs a Tri-C Metro this week as part of its Classical Piano Series. And yes, there will  be pianists too: Emanuela Friscioni, director of the Tri-C Classical Piano Series, and Antonio Pompa-Baldi, first prize winner of the 1999 Cleveland International Piano Competition. In addition, Cleveland Pops Orchestra Maestro Carl Topilow will guest-conduct a number.

“We appreciate the opportunity to host the Lviv National Philharmonic and to raise awareness of the tragic conflict that has unfolded in Ukraine in the past year,” says Friscioni in a press release. “Maestro Kuchar is internationally renowned and to welcome him home for this performance, as well as the orchestra, promises to be a truly special night.”
