Lake Erie Folk Festival Offers Listening, Playing & Learning

Sat 2/11 @ 1-6PM & 7:30PM

While the Lake Erie Folk Fest, now in its 7th year, always features a diverse lineup of artists representing different styles and cultures, in its evening concert, the day is as much about making music as listening to it — which is what “folk” music has always sprung from.

And if you’re a folk music buff, you’ll want to come for the afternoon sessions — five hours of free workshops with experienced instructors/performers you’ve probably heard in local venues, designed for musicians of all skill levels, ages and musical proclivities. Irish music, bluegrass, old-time and more are on the schedule, along with sessions on accordion, guitar, banjo, fiddle, ukulele, upright bass, mandolin and songwriting; workshops designed just for kids; and informal performances by area folk musicians. And there are plenty of chances (and spaces) for musicians to get together for an impromptu jam and see what sparks fly.

The evening concert, at 7:30pm, will feature young Scottish folk trio Talisk; Americana/swing act/soul duo Bonnis and the King (Andrew Bonnis and Christine King); Ukrainian traditional Ukrainian group Hryhory Kytasty Cleveland School of Bandura; and Cleveland indie folk artist Liz Bullock, who will be joined by Gavin Coe.

Tickets for the evening concert are $15 in advance, $20 day of show; 12 and under are free. The festival takes place at the Shore Cultural Center in Euclid. For tickets and information, go to lakeeriefolkfest.
