Heights Arts recently began a new series of social events called ARTbar at its gallery space in the Cedar-Lee district, evenings that combine music, visual art (always present in its gallery), drinks and snacks.
This month, the event will feature music by Akron-based sax player/composer Nathan-Paul Davis. He first came to public attention in the horn section of retro soul ensemble Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites before going on to front the mostly instrumental soul-funk ensemble the Admirables. But he also played with Latin jazz ensemble Ahi-Nama and he has a degree in jazz performance from the University of Akron.
At Heights Arts, he’ll be joined by keyboard player Andru Dennis to perform an evening of original jazz. There’ll be White Russians and mulled wine at the bar as well as a selection of both sweet and savory munchies. And of course you can immerse yourself in the gallery’s current shows, Dual Duel, which features visual art by artists who are also musicians and work by Nick Lee in the Spotlight Gallery.
Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-members. Get tickets at artbar-with-nathan-paul-and-andru-dennis/.
