Umami had a long run in downtown Chagrin Falls, but finally ended its 14 years there in the winter of 2021-22. Owners Mike Mendlovic and Nikki Williams revamped, with a remodel that features a long black walnut bar running the length of the room, and a new menu that features primarily small plates and reopened in August 2022 as The Reserve. Chef Gregg Gale created a seasonal menu, still with an emphasis on seafood — oysters, scallops, crab, caviar, salmon — and a good number of vegetarian choices. The place is still small so they say reservations are recommended but they add, “there is a chance there will be some spots open for you at the new, beautiful bar!” There you can partake of their list of cocktails, bourbons and wines as well as their food.
