The idea that in a country as wealthy as ours anyone is going hungry — especially children — is unfathomable. But it’s a fact. Despite the amount of food wasted in the U.S., many people can’t afford regular mails, and many politicians advocate to cut food assistance, even school meals, while calling themselves “Christians.”
But Jesus told his followers to “feed the hungry” and that’s what the Greater Cleveland Food Bank does every day. It serves a six-county area, in which it provided food for more than 340,000 people last year, including 87,000 first-timers, impacted by the shaky pandemic economy. People were left having to make choices between rent or food, and the Food Bank was there to help.
Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s CEO Kristin Warzocha will speak at the City Club on the work the organization does to make sure northeast Ohioans have quality, nutritious food regardless of their ability to pay.
Her talk will also be livestreamed, starting at noon. Questions can be tweeted to @TheCityClub or texted to 330-541-5794.
