Dancing Wheels Takes the Stage at Trinity Cathedral’s BrownBag Concert Series

Wed 2/1 @ noon

When Mary Verdi-Fletcher, who was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair, formed Dancing Wheels in 1980 to develop choreography for wheelchair and “stand-up” dancers together, no one else had done anything quite like it. The Cleveland-based ensemble has now spawned similar groups, a couple of whom they hosted for a gala at Playhouse Square in 2021; developed story ballet such as its A Midsummer Night’s Dream; travelled to Mexico and Asia; and just last week presented a program around dementia, created with health care organizations, caregivers and impacted families. And Verdi-Fletcher who is the group’s founding artistic director still dances with the company!

If you haven’t checked out what they do, a good way to sample it is this week’s Brownbag concert, a lunchtime performance series at Trinity Cathedral on the CSU campus. The one-hour performance is free.
