Freelance classical violinist Ariel Clayton Karas started Classical Revolution Cleveland in 2009. It was based on the idea of bringing classical music to non-traditional venues and new audiences, and giving some of Cleveland’s large community of professional-level classical musicians the chance to try some things that wouldn’t work in a traditional concert hall.
They’ve performed all over town, at the VA hospital, shelters and correctional facilities, did a residency in the Gordon Square Arts District in 2018 that had them playing at Near West Theatre, 79th Street Studios and even a neighborhood gas station. The ensemble features a rotating cast of musicians in different numbers and configurations, often blending classical music with other genres. The whole idea is to be accessible to everyone.
This week they’re back at a venue that’s been a regular slot of their calendar since the start: the Happy Dog in Gordon Square. The performance is free.
