Canton Museum of Art Celebrates Animals on First Friday

Fri 2/3 @ 5-7PM

One of the current shows at the Canton Museum of Art is called Thinking with Animals. It features the work of more than 50 ceramics artists with a wide range of stylistic approaches to depicting animals. The artists represent a diverse group in terms of culture, gender identity, background and career stages, and use a variety of techniques to create their work. Symbolism and metaphor abound as artists use animals to make statements about human behavior.

The show’s on view through March 5, and this month’s First Friday Family Night at the museum revolves around the exhibit. Their guest partner will be the Akron Zoo, who will help bring information and activities abut animals. There’ll be things to do throughout the galleries, along with “creative stations” offering insights into how animals sense and communicate — and they’re promising “animal ambassadors” too!

The event is free and no registration is required. Just stop in. The museum has extended hours on First Friday from 10am-8pm.
