Artist Andy Krebs Shows Nature-Inspired Paintings & Batiks in Kent

Sat 1/7 @ 7PM

Kent-based artist Andy Krebs has been around. Raised in Kent, she earned a B.S. in environmental studies at the University of Central Florida, where she also studied drawing and painting. The New York Academy of Art was her next stop, where shoe completed a program in 2019 before moving back to Kent. She now teaches art and works as an organic vegetable gardener.

All of that feeds into her new exhibit of paintings and batiks titled Natural Evolution, which opens this weekend at Standing Art Cultural Arts’ North Water Street Gallery in Kent.

“My recent work is a deviation from the figurative paintings I’ve done in the past; the paintings and batiks I make now are freer,” she says in her artist statement.. “The process of creating the black and white birds in gouache begins with a blind contour drawing. I then build upon whatever’s been created by adding value, texture, and pattern. The batiks similarly have elements that are somewhat out of my control: Wax seeps, drips, and cracks, and dye washes are sometimes different than expected. The landscape pieces are inspired by a recent backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada.”

The show opens with a reception on Saturday January 7 and will be on view through February 4. It’s free and open to all. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday @ noon-5pm.
