Akron Ensemble Presents Adults-Only Sesame Street Parody “Avenue Q”

Fri 1/13-Sat 1/28 @ 7:30PM

The musical comedy Avenue Q debuted off and on Broadway in 2003, where it was a hit, running through 2009. Combining both human actors and puppets/puppeteers, it’s an X-Rated parody of Sesame Street, with lots of profanity and nudity and themes revolving around homosexuality, pornography and racism. With music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Max and book by Jeff Whitty, it won the 2004 Tonys for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.

Avenue Q will be presented at the Akron Civic Theatre’s intimate Knight Stage for six performances, Fridays and Saturdays through January 28, by the northeast Ohio-based Millennial Theatre Project. They warn that despite the puppets, this show is NOT family-friendly, so leave the kids at home.
