Watch a Giant Popcorn Ball Drop at Midnight on New Year’s Eve

Sat 12/31 @ 10:30PM

A beloved, although relatively new, New Year’s holiday tradition returns to Chagrin Falls this year when its beloved Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop hosts its Popcorn Ball Drop for the 10th year.

It’s bringing back its “Jupiter” ball, which it said was “ravaged by a community of raccoons at its storage place in Bill Davis’s Newbury Barn.”  The ball’s been refurbished and once again weights 220 pounds, measures six feet in diameter and holds the equivalent of 13,488 three-inch popcorn balls.

The ball has been on display at the shop since December 15 and remains thee through December 29 when it’s run up the village’s flagpole to await its midnight drop on December 31.

The party starts with hot chocolate and cookies in the Chagrin Falls Township Hall from 10:30-11:30pm. Then at midnight, Jupiter drops as the gathered crowd is led in singing “Auld Lang Syne,” confetti drops and 200 (small) popcorn balls are shot out into the crowd. Bufford T Hedgehog serves as DJ, while popcorn shop owner Dewey Forward, township trustee Tom Florkiewicz and media personality Jan Jones host.
