Lyndhurst residents Alex and Irene Shaland travel — a lot. The couple has visited 80 different countries to gather material for Alex’s travel photography and his two books Suburbanites on Safari and Jackie the Penguin Goes on Safari. Meanwhile, Irene gathers entertaining stories to share during the many presentations and lectures they do. And she is also a published author of five books and many magazine articles, with an emphasis on Jewish culture, something she looks for during their travels. Alex’s photos illustrate her books.
When they do a presentation at the Cleveland Photo Fest, taking place at the Bostwick Design Art Initiative gallery on Prospect through the end of the year, the emphasis will be on the photos, obviously. But Irene’s narratives will help enliven them and provide background.
The program is free and open to all. It’s a great opportunity to see the plethora of work by both professional and student photographers that comprises this year’s 3rd annual Cleveland Photo Fest.
