Fri 12/3 @ 4PM & 6PM

Fri 12/30 @ 4PM & 6PM

Back in the day, parents would bundle up their kids, hustle them onto a bus (or streetcar!) and take them downtown to ooh and aah over the department store Christmas window displays and walk through the stores rife with ornaments, pine swags and Christmas trees. Maybe they’d even have a meal at one of those department store “tea rooms,”” now almost all relegated to history.

While the department stores are all gone from downtown, you can recall some of the magic — and enjoy some of today’s holiday displays — on Tours of Cleveland’s Downtown Christmas Walking Tour. Meet your guide at Public Square, which is resplendent with lights and decorations, and stroll down Euclid Avenue t Playhouse Square will a stop in the arcade to hear about former delights such as Higbee’s Twigbee Shop, Mr. Jingeling and the Sterling-Lindner Christmas tree.

The half-and-a-half tour has a few more evenings left: it runs at Friday December 21-23 and again Friday December 30. Tickets are $20; reservations are required. Go here.
