Wed 12/21 @ 3:30-5PM & 7:30-9:30PM
Summit Metro Parks has two ways to mark the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, and celebrate that now the days get longer!
The Summit Lake Solstice Celebration take place in the afternoon from 3:30-5pm at the Summit Lake Nature Center. You can watch the sunset as you learn about solstice traditions from around the work, enjoy snacks, a short hike and crafts. This one is definitely family-friendly!
If you find darkness exciting, then come to the Liberty Park Nature Center in Twinsburg for a Winter Solstice Hike and Fire. First there’ll be a luminary-lit hike on Maple Loop Trail, followed by a walk down Black Bear Trail to look for tracks (don’t worry — no bears, just deer, raccoons and rabbits), listen for owls and hear “the true story” of Santa’s reindeer. Afterwards, there’s hot chocolate around a fire. This one’s family-friendly too, for the kids who can stay awake.
Both are free. For information, call 330-865-8065 or go to summitmetroparks/ProgramsAndEvents.
