Cleveland’s Red Light Roxy are always a lot of fun, playing lively swing-infused pop straight out of the ’40s and ’50s. They fill the dance floor in every venue they play, as they pour out their own skillful renditions of beloved tunes from the Great American Songbook and other standards.
The group is fronted by sassy vocalist Eileen Burns who knows how to get an audience going. And she’s backed by some of the town’s top jazz musicians: pianist Joe Hunter, bassist Demetrius Steinmetz, guitarist Daris Atkins, drummer Holbrook Hiles III and sax player Dave Sterner. They make this a great listening band for those who aren’t inclined to dance.
Red Light Roxy and Swing Island will be having a holiday dance party at Forest City Brewery the day after Christmas when you probably really want something to so. I you DO like to dance, or think it looks like fun and want to try it, there’s a short dance lesson at 6:30 before the music comes on from 7-10pm. Don’t worry about a partner either; this is the kind of dancing where everyone gets a chance to dance with everyone else.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $18 at the door. Get them here.
