Casting a wistful eye toward summer yet? I’ll bet quite a few of you are after that latest storm!

Northeast Ohio’s greatest recreational treasure is its lake, and you can tell by going down to the shore any halfway decent day between May and late November how much Clevelanders love boating (we actually saw a few sailboats out in early December, before the weather turned cold.)

If you’re interested in sailing or if you’re a sailor who just goes by instinct but wants to know more about getting the most from the experience, Cleveland Metroparks is offering a class called “The STEM of Sailing.” “STEM,” of course, is a newly popularized term meaning “science/technology/engineering/mathematics.” And this course will educate participants in the scientific and technical aspects of boats: how does a boat float? How is it propelled? How can you calculate how fast the wind is moving? The outdoor recreation staff will share (indoors, at the Rocky River Nature Center) all these aspects of sailing and answer your questions.

Anyone ages 8 and up can attend although those 8-17 muse be accompanied by a registered, participating adult. Cost is $10. Register here.
