CityMusic Holiday Concerts Offer Mozart Symphony, Italian Arias & Trumpet Concerto

Thu 12/8, Fri 12/9 & Sat 12/10 @ 7:30PM

Sun 12/11 @ 3PM

The CityMusic Cleveland chamber orchestra moved to conductorless concerts in September, but for their holiday concert, “Festive Sounds,” they’ve invited back former guest conductor Stefan Willich to lead the program.

They’ll be performing an evening (well, four evenings, actually) of repertoire favorites, starting with the reliable Mozart whose Symphony No. 40 and Overture to Marriage of Figaro are slated to be performed, along with Giacomo Puccini’s aria “O mio babbino caro” from the opera Gianni Schicchi and Giuseppe Verdi’s aria “Caro nome” from Rigoletto, the latter two featuring soprano soloist Chabrelle Williams, plus Czech composer Johann Baptist Georg Neruda’s mid-18th century trumpet concert in E-flat major.

CityMusic’s special guest for the latter piece is Cleveland Orchestra trumpet player Jack Sutte, on which he’ll play a Schilke E-flat cornet instead of the usual E-flat trumpet.

The orchestra will perform at The Temple-Tifereth Israel on Thursday December 8; at Lakewood Congregational Church on Friday December 9; at the Shrine Temple of St. Stanislaus in Slavic Village on Saturday December 10; and at the Federated Church of Chagrin Fall on Sunday December 11.

As always, admission to CityMusic concerts is free.
