Where to go on Christmas if your family doesn’t celebrate or wants something low-key and non-stressful to do?
The Maltz Museum is always open on Christmas. You steep yourself in their permanent exhibit An American Story, the story of Jewish immigrants in Cleveland, reflecting the story of most immigrants who arrive here; The Temple-Tifereth Israel’s outstanding collection of Judaica; and the current special exhibit This Light of Mine, showing work of nine activist photographers of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement.
There’s a drop-in tour at 1pm where a docent will guide visitors through An American Story and The Temple-Tifereth Israel Gallery. There’s no extra change and no reservations are needed; just tell the front desk when you arrive that you’d like to take the tour. There’s also an opportunity for visitors to make greeting cards for new Cleveland immigrant and refugee families.
In addition, you can do a mitzvah (good deed), as the museum celebrates Christmas Can-Can “give what you can, pay what you can.” Bring cans of food to be donated to the Kosher Food Bank and the Great Cleveland Food Bank. And admission is free; you can donate what you choose.
