Apollo’s Fire Celebrates an Irish-Appalachian Christmas at Playhouse Square

Wed 12/21 & Thu 12/22 @ 7:30PM

Now that its Handel’s Messiah concerts are over, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, Apollo’s Fire, takes off its classical hat and puts on its folk garb to celebrate “Wassail: An Irish Appalachian Christmas.”

The ensemble has become as well known for its lively performances of cross-Atlantic traditional music as for its baroque classics, regaling its summertime audiences with this sound as well. For this program of traditional caroling music, the Apollo’s Fire musicians will feature Irish soprano Fiona Gillespie, soprano Elora Kares, tenor and Irish Bouzouki player Bradley King, lutist/vocalist Brian Kay, harpist/vocalist Anna O’Connell; bagpiper/vocalist Ian Crane, fiddlers Alan Choo and Emi Tanabe, hammered dulcimer player Tina Bergmann, cellist Rene Schiffer, and of course, Apollo’s Fire’s leader and director of the show, Jeannette Sorrell on harpsichord.

They’ll be doing two performances at Playhouse Square’s Allen Theatre. Go here for more information and tickets.
