Valley Art Center’s 51st Annual Juried Art Exhibition, which opened in early November and is on view through December 14, was open to artists living within 250 miles of Chagrin Falls. The jury panel — Casey Monda of Casey Monda Art Advisory, director of galleries at the University of Akron Arnold Tunstall, and Cleveland artist Mark Yasenchack — chose 48 pieces of the nearly 600 submitted.
There are two reasons to stop out to Valley Art Center this week and catch the show. On Thursday December 1, it was host Ekphrastacy – Artists Talk + Poets Respond, in partnership with Heights Arts where this is a long-running event. It features artists talking about their work and poets responding to the works of art in the gallery, offering different interpretations. Cleveland Heights poet laureate Ray McNiece will lead the program which will also feature poets Siaara Freeman, Christine Howey and Mary Weems.
Then, on Saturday December 2 at noon-5pm, Valley Art Center with re-open its completely re-imagined fine arts shop with work from more than 30 new local artists who have created handcrafted gifts in a variety of media, appropriate for holiday gifting, with items starting at $10. It will launch with a ribbon-cutting at 11:45am with the Chagrin Fall Chamber of Commerce before doors open for business at noon. There will be refreshments!
