Ronald Reagan’s Daughter Shares Advice for Families Dealing With Alzheimer’s

Mon 11/14 @ 7PM

Patti Davis, actress and author, is best known as the daughter of the late president Ronald Reagan. And whatever you may have thought of Reagan as a president (in these quarters, not much), his long descent into Alzheimer’s disease was a tragedy for his family. His diagnosis was announced in 1994, although it’s clear he was suffering from it earlier, and he died in 2004, confronting his family many years to cope with his condition.

Davis’ latest book is titled Floating in the Deep End: How Caregivers Can See Beyond Alzheimer’s. In it, she shares some of the issues her family dealt with and offers advice to others in the same position, from initial diagnosis to post-death. As Davis says, “For the decade of my father’s illness, I felt as if I was floating in the deep end, tossed by waves, carried by currents, but not drowning.”

The Hudson Library and Historical Society will present a livestreamed event with Davis. The event is free but registration is required. Go here to register.
