Eight years ago local musician John Panza and his wife Jane founded the nonprofit Panza foundation to give back to the area’s indie rock community, with the realization that a small amount of money could make a huge difference to a local band: fund a short tour, pay for a recording session or the pressing of a record, buy a piece of desperately needed gear.
There’s no application process. The Panzas and their board rely on their network to discover who has something in the works that could be launched with a dollop of cash.
Each fall, the Panza Foundation hosts it annual benefit, featuring the previous year’s class of grantees and naming the new ones, usually four artists. That event is coming up and will take place as usual at the Happy Dog in Gordon Square. Hear the 2022 group of bands: Biitchseat, Muamin Collective, Marcus Alan Ward and Oregon Space Trail of Doom, starting at 8:30. Come early when the doors open at 7:30 to check out the raffle prizes, including recording and mastering services, musical equipments, holistic services and much more. Then stick around to hear who the 9th class of grantees is.
Admission is $10, which goes to help fund more bands. You can donate more here if you really want to help area musicians.
