Jazz Sax Player/Composer Howie Smith Does an Evening of Solo Music at the BOP STOP

Thu 12/1 @ 7PM

Jazz sax player/composer Howie Smith is a professor emeritus in jazz studies, woodwinds and composition at Cleveland State University where he’s taught since 1979. One of the courses he taught for many years was Jazz Survey, a class intended to give non-music majors an overview of some of the genre’s major players.

At the end of the semester, he did an improvised, hour-long solo concert called “Concert in Progress” for the final class using whatever instruments and electronics he had at the time.

Smith will be performing a solo concert at the BOP STOP this week that we’re told may include some of those pieces as well as no ones. Or “then again, it may be an hour or more of completely improvised music . . . or a combination of both.” Come to the show or tune in on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page and find out! Tickets to the live show are $15. You can listen to the livestream for free and donate here if you feel inclined.
