The Woodchopper’s Ball has been an (almost) annual event for more than two decades, returning to the Kent Stage every December with a lineup of finger-style acoustic guitarists from around the country to raise money for charity.
This year’s is the 21st edition, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the NEO Coalition or the Homeless. It’s organized by veteran northeast Ohio finger-style guitarist Brian Henke, who is one of the long list of players.
Most of the roster will be familiar to Woodchopper fans, having performed previous years. That includes Woodchopper’s regulars, Mark Sganga out of New York; Indiana’s Michael Kelsey, a virtual one-man band; Madison, Wisconsin duo Helen Avakian and Dave Irwin who perform as the Red Door; Northeast Ohio retired high school teacher/guitar builder Jesse Smith; Virginia’s Matt Thomas, known for his distinctive harp guitar; and Michigander Bill Russell. Peter Rowen and Dover, Ohio guitarist Atom Lax round out the lineup.
Tickets are $20 & $30 in advance, $25 & $35 at the door.
