Fri 10/7-Sat 10/8
If you missed the events that took place during Pride month — June — you have the chance to celebrate this weekend at Kent Rainbow Weekend, two days of activities and events that will fill the small college town with support of the LGBTQ+ community: art shows, music and other entertainment, storytelling, educational programs and more.
On Friday KSU’s LGBTQ+ Center holds its annual Rainbow Run to benefit its emergency fund, while Main Street Kent has its Rainbow Weekend Bar Crawl with rainbow swag raffle tickets and rainbow jello shots at check-in and live music at a variety of venues. Two different events for two different types of people! And the Kent Stage will be showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show for those who are into THAT sort of thing.
Saturday’s events include three free sessions on how to support the LGBTQ+ community sponsored by Main street Kent; live music by Morgan Mecaskey and Jess Miller at Bell Tower Brewing; take-and-make crafts and face painting for kids; drag queen speed tarot reading, DJ music and well as live music by artists such as Diana Chittester; an interactive art display on campus; comedy performances; drag shows; and a “Courageously Queer: Identity” storytelling event, taing plces at venues all over downtown. In addition, LGBTQ+ inspired art shows will be on view, with receptions at Troppus Projects and Squirrel City Jewelers on Friday evening. FJKluth Art Gallery, Bell Tower Brewing, McKay Bricker Framing and Scribbles Coffee will be open throughout the weekend.
