Kent’s Standing Rock Cultural Arts has been celebrating Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) for many years — 20 to be exact — with an art exhibition that features work in diverse media by local artists.
This year’s artists include Standing Rock stalwart Vince Packard, Nikki Puccini, Debrah Butler, Emily Anne Buckingham and Martyn Flunoy, showing their paintings, drawings, sculptures and collage works, along with tie-dyes by David Jerome Bragg.
The opening reception will be about more than art though: it will feature music by Mariachi Santa Cecilia and drummer Mango from Kenya’s Kenge Kenge Orutu System. And it’s not only a celebration of Dia de los Muertos — it’s SRCA’s 30th anniversary.
The show will be on view through Saturday November 26.
