Festivals celebrating the fall are everywhere, and the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes is joining the party with its Autumnfest: Fairy Tales in the Forest event.
The free family-friendly will feature a variety of season-themed activities around its forested grounds and in its building. There’ll be an evening hike and tree climbing, as well as s’mores at a fire pit. Shaker Heights Library will be offering story time and wand making, and there’ll be pumpkin decorating, a scavenger hunt, sidewalk chalking and games. And there won’t just be face painting: there’ll be FANTASTICAL face painting.
Performance artist Robin VanLear (who founded Parade the Circle) will be there with her masked and costumed crew from her organization Art Act. Plus all Nature Center staff, volunteers and vendors will be in costume and you’re encouraged to come dressed in fairy tale/adventure garb. DJ Markus’ “mythical music” will set the mood.
Eats and drinks will be available for purchase at food trucks from Dawg Bowl, Mount Granita Italian Ice and EDWINS Restaurant, and a “libation station” from EDWINS. You’ll also be able to shop the fall perennial sale from 4-6pm in the pavilion, featuring native plants suitable for fall planting.
