Fri 9/9 @ 6:30-9:30PM
Moonstruck Vintage in Little Italy is a small storefront packed with all kinds of vintage finds. This week though, it’s offering something not vintage at all: a special event featuring author Luz Emma Cañas to launch her new book, a memoir titled Martial Love.
She has quite a background to fuel a memoir. Armed with a degree in Chicano Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, she went on to earn a master’s in dance movement therapy. She’s certified in Kundalini Yoga and is a Sufi healer and poet. And she is keeping alive the legacy of her late husband, Capoeira master Jorge Luiz de Souza Jesus, with the first U.S. Capoeira Angola group founded and directed, by a woman.
The event will feature a conversation with Luz and her friend, DJ/curator/artist Garth Trinidad. It starts with “libations and small bites” from 6:30-7:30pm followed by the conversation from 7:30-8:30. The conversation will also be available on YouTube at youtube/luzemma. Luz will have copies of her book available for sale. Space is limited, so get there early to get in. And wear a mask!
