This is a big week for Clevelanders on two wheels: it’s overflowing with bicycle-related events of all types.
Slow Roll Cleveland, which typically hosts a comfortably paced ride for all ages and skill levels through a different neighborhood each Monday while the weather’s nice, is rolling off from Shaker Square on Monday September 19 — and rental bikes will be available for those who just want to try it out. But they also have a second ride this week on Wednesday September 14, in conjunction with FRONT Triennial, to look at some of its art around the east side of Cleveland. Meet at Wade Oval at 6pm.
On Thursday September 15 @ 8:30am, those concerned about making roads safer for cyclists can join the Ride for Sylvia, a memorial ride for Sylvia Bingham who was killed September 15, 2009 while riding her bike to work. Meet at the Bike Box on the corner of West 11th and Fairfield in Tremont to ride to East 21st and Prospect where she was killed for a brief remembrance ceremony.
On Friday September 16 @ 5:30-7:30PM, the whole family can join the Lakeview Summer Bike Ride, which not only features a comfortable 5-8 mile ride, starting at the Lakeview Estates Community Center (1290 W. 25th St.) but a free movie in the Novak Park. You can skip the movie and ride back, or ride leaders will take people back to the starting point after the movie at 9pm.
NEORSD’s annual Clean Water Fest on Saturday September 17 is back featuring a day of environmental and fun activities, one of which is touring NEORSD’s Southerly Wastewater plant. Join other cyclists for a 5 ½ mile ride to the Cuyahoga Heights facility and take a bike tour (walking tours will also be taking place all day.) Space is limited; sign up here for either a 10am or 1pm tour.
On Sunday September 18 @ 6-9pm the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s Asian Lantern Festival is extended for one more day — for cyclists only. The Wild Ride at the Zoo will give two-wheelers the chance to see the lighted exhibits all over the zoo before they come down. Get tickets here.
Wednesday September 21 @ 730-9Am is Bike to Work Day with rides meeting at two locations: on Euclid outside Severance Hall in University Circle and in the Warehouse District at the foot of the Detroit-Superior Bridge.
