Sat 10/1 @ noon-6PM
If you’ve ever stopped by Fear’s Confections in Lakewood or run into proprietor Cassandra Fear selling her wares at an event, you know how tasty her more than two dozen flavors of brownies and her handmade hand-dipped and hand-molded chocolates are. In addition to brownies in such flavors as “Evil Monkey” (chocolate with banana), she’s know for producing chocolates in shapes that appeal to pop-culture nerds (Star Wars, Dr. Who) as well as seasonal chocolates for holidays such as Halloween and Christmas. The unique shop also sells items by local artists, craftspeople and other local makers.
Fear will be hosting a special anniversary event at the Lakewood shop, which opened in 2014. (She launched in March 2010, as a home-based, online only brownie business.) The anniversary event will include a scavenger hunt of neighboring businesses (this trip of Madison is packed with interesting small, locally owned storefront shops), raffles, local vendors such as Burning River Roller Derby and Robert of Cleveland Magic and Balloons (2-4pm). While the event takes place from noon-6pm, the shop will be open until 9 if you’d like to shop more quietly.
In addtion, Fear is sharing the news that they’ve recently acquired a neighboring storefront with plans to open a full-service ice cream shop in the spring, with a GoFundMe campaign currently underway to support the project. They’re already offering pints of their custom handmade ice cream in their current space.
