Western Reserve Historical Society Program Honors Blacks in Journalism

This week, the Western Reserve Historical Society is kicking off a series of events on Black Journalism in Cleveland to honor the 100th anniversary of the founding of Fairfax’s Allen E. Cole Photography Studio including an exhibit called Partnerships, Portraits, and the Power of Photojournalism: Black History According to Allen E. and Frances T. Cole.”

In keeping with the year it was founded, the event has a 20s theme, with jazz performed by Gabriel’s Horns. The party will also offer admission to the new exhibit & all other exhibit, heavy hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks, a cash bar, personalized photos by L&L photography, an autographed copy of Through the Lens of Allen E. Cole: A Photographic History of African Americans in Cleveland, Ohio, and a talk by author Samuel W. Black, director of African American Programs at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh.

The exhibit opens at 5pm; the author talk takes place at 5:30-6pm, and Gabriel’s Horns performs from 6-6:45 and 7:15-8PM. Tickets are $35 for WRHS members; $50 for nonmembers. Get tickets here.
