Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, composed in the early 1700s, comprise four violin concerts intended to echo the feel of each season. They’ve remained a staple of orchestral repertoires, and are his best known works.
Naturally, that makes them perfect for summer programming at a venue such as Blossom Music Center, where they’ll be performed this weekend. It won’t be the Cleveland Orchestra onstage as usual though. The New York-based Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will be doing the honors, along with Ukrainian-born, Latvian-raised, Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman, making his Blossom Festival debut.
The program is rounded out with contemporary American composer Adolphus Hailstork’s Sonata Da Chiesa for String Orchestra and 18th-century Italian composer (and Vivaldi’s contemporary) Francesco Geminiani’s La Follia Variations.
