The idea of making art out of words has been around a while. It’s been used by prominent artists such as Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer and neon artists Bruce Nauman. Other artists, such as Rene Magritte, incorporated words into their images from time to time.
The next group show at the Yards Project in the Warehouse District’s Worthington Yards Building is called Text Messages, and builds on that idea. These artists work in a variety of styles and media, including print, painting, assemblage, photography, embroidery, light installation and neon, either using text as an element of their images and creating images solely from text.
Artists in the show include Karl Anderson, Shadi Ayoub, Malcolm Barrett, Anna Chapman, Ron Copeland, Jeffry Chiplis, Paula Damm, Erin Guido, Brittany M. Hudak, Bob Kelemen, Micah Kraus, Melinda Placko, Sampson the Artist, Jaylon Wright and Rachel Yurkovich.
The show opens Thursday, September 1 with a reception from 5:30-8pm and will be on view through Saturday October 22.
