Cleveland.com reporter Troy Smith does a series of monthly music podcasts that he tapes live at the Music Box Supper Club.

This month his topic is an event that occurred exactly 40 years who here in northeast Ohio. It cemented the reputation of the Michael Stanley Band as the biggest Cleveland band ever — in Cleveland.  It was the last week of August 1982 when the Michael Stanley Band drew nearly 75,000 people to a series of four concerts at Blossom Music Center, capturing one of several attendance records it held at a northeast Ohio venue (Others included Richfield Coliseum, the Front Row Theatre and Playhouse Square.)

In “CLE Rocks Presents…Michael Stanley’s Record-setting Blossom Concerts” Troy will talk to a couple of people who were there — onstage. Drummer Tom Dobeck was an original member of the Michael Stanley Band, performing at their very first gig at the Cleveland Agora on September 3, 1974, and playing with Michael at every band gig he played until his death, his longest-running musical collaborator. Guitarist Gary Markasky replaced original guitarist Jonah Koslen in 1978 and played with MSB through 1983.

Doors open at 5pm for dinner (reservations required). The free program starts at 7pm.
