Listen to Pink Floyd in Immersive Sound at the Music Box

Fri 9/2 @ 7:30PM

The Music Box Supper Club is starting its fall series of Immersive Listening Parties, which they kicked off early this year after installing a state-of-the-art surround sound system in its upstairs concert hall, allowing patrons to hear their favorite albums like they’ve never heard them before.

And it’s certainly fitting that its next subject is progressive rock powerhouse Pink Floyd, a band known for their sonically detailed albums, featuring sound effects and synthesizers.

The star attraction is the playing of the band’s eighth studio album, 1973’s The Dark Side of the Moon, which produced the band’s hit single “Money,” still heard constantly on classic rock stations today. The album took a sober look at the pressures surrounding the band, including the departure several years earlier of vocalist/guitarist Syd Barrett who suffered from mental health issues.

There’s a bonus album as well: Pink Floyd’s follow-up to The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975’s Wish You Were Here on which they expand on themes of alienation and the affect of music business pressure on creativity. It featured “Shine On (You Crazy Diamond (Part I-V)” and “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX),” which are explicitly about Barrett, as well as the title track, another classic rock staple.

Door open at 6pm for dinner; music starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. For tickets and more info go here.
