Everyone’s probably heard the saying, “Red sky at night, sailors delight, red sky in the morning sailors take warning.” There are all kinds of myths about weather omens: claims that certain animal or bird behavior bodes a storm or that changes in plants predict a hard winter or hot summer, sayings such as “Clear moon, frost soon” and “Ring around the moon, frost soon.”
Is any of this based on science or is it all old wives’ tales? A Summit Metro Park naturalist will share what’s true and what’s superstition on a weather folklore hike at Wood Hollow Metro Park in Hudson.
“We’ll look at the history and credibility of weather folklore sayings as we enjoy a hike, hopefully in beautiful weather!” they promise.
