Wed 9/14 @ noon-8PM
The partying out at the Slovenian SNPJ Farm in Kirtland goes on well into the fall. And one of the eagerly awaited events is the 18th annual Slovenian Sausage Festival, put on by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame.
Sure, there’s sausage and music out there all season long, but on this day there’s MORE sausage and MORE music — eight hours to eat and polka/waltz your way around the dance floor.
Among the bands and musicians taking the stage for a spell will be the Don Wojtila Band, the Eddie Rodick Band, the Fairport Jammers, Kathy Hlad and friends, Ray Kovac and the Summit Jammers, the Anthony Culkar Orchestra, the Hoboes, Patty C and the Guys, Ron Likovic and Friends, and the Polka Hall of Fame All-Star Band. They’re saying more than 50 accordion players will be onstage during the day, and you’re welcome to bring your own for the accordion jam session.
The special attraction is four local sausage makers who are competing to be named the King of Klobasa and become the official sausage supplier for the Polka Hall of Fame’s three-day Thanksgiving Polka Weekend: Azman Quality Meats (Euclid), Maple Heights Catering (Oakwood), Raddell’s Sausage Shop (Cleveland), and Miro’s Meat Market (Eastlake). Try a sample of each and cast your vote for your favorite. There’ll be a People’s Choice winner and a juried Best of Fest winner. The winner will be announced at 6pm, and then the music goes on!
There’ll be plenty of other food and beverages as well, and a polka pop-up shop to buy CDs and T-shirts. Admission is $15.
