Island Green Week, which runs from Saturday August 6 through Sunday August 1 on Middle Bass Island and Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island helps remind us of the need to preserve the natural beauty and resources of our region’s ecosystem.
Things get into gear on Saturday August 6 with Middle Bass Island Poker Kayak Day on August 6th the Pig Roast at the Lake Erie Island Nature and Wildlife Center. On August 7, there’s a dedication and party at the new Massie Cliffside Preserve and on Monday you can tour a great Lakes Lighthouse on Put-in-Bay. On August 10, the island Preserve Ramble & Tour highlights the natural area preserves on South Bass Island, with special activities at each location. That evening there’s a Pig Roast at the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center with a silent auction fundraiser and one of the island’s beloved entertainers, Ray Fogg, performing. You can visit the Nature and Wildlife Center as well as the Aquatic Visitors Center and Fish Hatchery all week to learn about the ecology of the lake and the islands.
