Sometimes musicians who’ve established themselves as solo artists can find additional dimensions in their music by partnering with someone else.

That’s what Cleveland-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Bethany Joy and Kent singer/songwriter Dan Socha did. While each is known for their own music which draws from various genres including blues, soul, jazz and funk, and each has a lot of projects including performing with various ensembles, hosting open mic nights and promoting shows, they also come together as Thieves of Joy, to perform original tunes featuring their vocal harmony duets.

They’ll be the first performers in local acoustic music nonprofit Folknet’s fall Mountain Rose Concert Series, which take place on the first Sunday of the month. It takes place at Standing Rock Cultural Arts in Kent. Admission is 410, $7 for Folknet members and $5 for all additional children in a family with a “responsible adult.” We assume that means someone who can guarantee the kids will sit quietly, listen to the music and not distract the people around them!
