Artist- and Entertainment-Packed Lakewood Arts Festival Is Back

Sat 8/6 @ 10AM-6PM

One of the area’s premiere arts festivals, the Lakewood Arts Festival celebrates its 45th anniversary this year.

As usual, Detroit Avenue in downtown Lakewood will be packed with food, entertainment and of course, artists — more than 100 of them from around the country and our own art scene, including such familiar names as Angela Oster, Jessica Sheeran, Glenn Petranek, April Bleakney, John Gulyas and Mary Ann Posch, Jim Lanza, George Kocar and Mark Yasenchack. The largest number (more than two dozen) offer jewelry, but there’s also sculpture, woodwork, leatherwork, metalwork, printmaking, glass, photography, fiber art, enamel, ceramics, painting, drawing and mixed media. Surely you’ll find something that grabs you.

There’ll be both street and stage performers with the Park Stage at Cook and Detroit, featuring singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Allen, folk rockers Maura Rogers & the Bellows, Tam Tam Magic Senegalese drummers, Liz Bullock and indie rockers, the Punchdrunk Tagalongs, while the Andrews Stage, at Andrews and Detroit, offers Brazilian guitarist Luca Mundaca, Sheela and the others, Bridgetown Junction, and Chris Allen with Kelly Wright.

Still not enough? On the Beck Stage at St. Charles and Detroit, you can hear Jessica McGrath and Carter Riordan performing violin duets, singer/songwriter Clara Edleman, guitarist/vocalist Tracy Ammon, folk ensemble Tom Kurlander & Pale Blue Sound, opera selections by Shaun McGrath and Dr. Amy Yekel, improv by Russ Stich & friends, the MadJaz Dance Company, spoken word by Katrina Starks, African-inspired dance from Black Bean and Kraig Brock’s Steel Drum.

Still not enough? Head down to the Lakewood Public Library on Detroit and catch global music ensemble Drumplay from noon-3pm.

All that entertainment and are browsing is free.
