The fountain in the middle of Tower City Center was looking pretty depressing the last time I was there (admittedly some years ago) surrounded by vendor tables hawking cheap leggings and costume jewelry. And all the fancy stores that were supposed to herald a revival of downtown retail are long good. Heck, so are the mundane ones.
So Bedrock, the company that manages Tower City Center is again attempting to gussy up the area and turn it into Skylight Park. They’re working with Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park to brig inside some of the common native plants you see everywhere outside at this time of year, such as purple coneflowers and black-eyed Susans. To add some value, they’re post quotes and mantras among the plants to encourage reflection, with benches, chairs and picnic tables so people can rest awhile and pretend they’re out in nature instead of going for a way in one of the area’s many parks or places such as the Lakefront Nature Preserve.
They’ll be hosting a grand opening for Skylight Park this Saturday. CVNP rangers will be there from noon-4pm for a family-oriented educational program on “misunderstood critters & creature.” There’ll be food and beverage pop-ups and other family-friendly activities as well. Future programs include a lunchtime music series on Thursdays @ 11:30AM-1:30PM. Go here for more info.
