The Parrot Head Run is back in Cleveland for the 6th year, taking off from (where else?) Margaritaville Cleveland. (For those not in the Parrothead scene, that’s the name for fans of Jimmy Buffett, who founded the Margaritaville chain of restaurants, named after one of his hit songs.)
And it’s more than just a walk: people gather to walk, run and just party with other Buffett fans, while raising more for local children’s charity Fostering Hope in Ohio to fund programs that help kids struggling with mental health.
Sure, you can sign up for the 5k or one-mile walk in the East Bank of the Flats, snagging a t-shirt and finisher medal with your entry fee, with prizes for male and female age brackets and best parrot head attire — the toughest competition will probably be in that latter category. Or you can just grab a seat at the bar to cheer the runners/walkers as they return, share Jimmy Buffett concert stories, enjoy some drinks and food and live music, an maybe kick in a little something to help Fostering Hope.
