On weekends, Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island is party central for the Lake Erie Islands (Go during the week for a more low-key experience.)
Middle Bass Island is more peaceful and laidback, and if you want to take your family out for a breath of Lake Erie air on the weekend, it’s a good place to go. And this weekend it’s hosting the Middle Bass Island Music Fest, an afternoon of diverse local bands suitable for all ages.
Headlining the event is Akron’s Shootouts, who perform American/roots music with a tip of the hat to traditional honky-tonk country and have gotten national airplay with their latest album, Bullseye. Local islander Lucas Guy and his band Lucky Fools will play songs his island fans have come to love as well as music from their new EP.
There should be a lot of dancing when the ten-piece Latin City Soul hits the stage with its salsa, R&B and Latin Jazz, while the Chardon Polka Band also provokes dancing with their repertoire of traditional polkas and polka-sized contemporary pop tunes. The North Coast Goats get things started.
The festival takes place at Middle Bass Island State Park and Lonz Winery Patio and Pavilion where there’ll also be food trucks, beer and wine, vendors, and an artist tent with arts & crafts demonstrations.
The festival is free to all. There’ll be an extra Miller Ferry at 7pm to take people back to the mainland.
